Amazon to Hire 70,000 Full-Time Workers for the Holidays

Amazon announced Tuesday that it plans to hire 70,000 full-time workers for its fulfillment centers to keep up with increased demand during the holidays, something like a 40% increase from last year's seasonal hiring, suggesting that the company is optimistic about growing consumer demand this year.

KPCB Internet Trends Report


The latest edition of the annual Internet Trends report finds continued robust online growth. There are now 2.4 billion Internet users around the world, and the total continues to grow apace. Mobile usage is expanding rapidly, while the mobile advertising opportunity remains largely untapped. The report reviews the shifting online landscape, which has become more social and content rich, with expanded use of photos, video and audio. Looking ahead, the report finds early signs of growth for wearable computing devices, like glasses, connected wrist bands and watches - and the emergence of connected cars, drones and other new platforms.

Windows 8 fails to reignite PC market: Gartner | Reuters

"Tablets have dramatically changed the device landscape for PCs, not so much by 'cannibalizing' PC sales, but by causing PC users to shift consumption to tablets rather than replacing older PCs," said Mikako Kitagawa, principal analyst at Gartner.
"Whereas as once we imagined a world in which individual users would have both a PC and a tablet as personal devices, we increasingly suspect that most individuals will shift consumption activity to a personal tablet, and perform creative and administrative tasks on a shared PC."
